General Settings

It is found in Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Kampuchea, Malaysia, Sumatra, the Philippines, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, and the Moluccas.
Body length-up to 10 m.
Weight – up to 130 kg.
The food is a variety of vertebrates, small and medium-sized: from monkeys to young deer and wild boars.
Life expectancy is about 20 years.

The reticulated python is vying with the anaconda for the title of the world's largest snake. Python is longer, but anaconda is more massive.

Social behavior

Reticulated pythons are solitary animals, "communication" occurs only during the breeding season. They are mainly crepuscular and nocturnal, most active after heavy tropical rains.

Reproduction

The gestation period lasts about 2 months. The female lays from 15 to 80 eggs, depending on her size, wraps her body around the clutch in 3-4 rings, warms it, maintaining the necessary incubation mode. The female does not eat anything during incubation. The cubs hatch in 90-105 days. Newborns in the length of 60-80 cm and weigh 160 to 170 g.

Species and people

It is intensively exterminated by the local population for the sake of meat and leather. The number is rapidly decreasing. There were isolated cases of attacks on a person.

Interesting Facts

During the breeding season, pythons do not eat: the hunger strike in males lasts up to five months, in females - up to seven.
